What’s the Nature of the CIP Ranchi entrance examination?

CIP Ranchi asks questions strictly according to the syllabus which in this case is the PG Psychology syllabus. The questions are asked from every domain of psychology and they cover each part.  

Which areas dominate the question paper?

The following five domains of Psychology dominate the paper:

1. Statistics & Research Methodology 2. Clinical psychology 3. Social Psychology 4. Personality and Developmental Psychology 5. Cognitive Psychology & Biopsychology 6. Psychometrics (Tests and not core Psychometry)

The Question paper is perfectly balanced between the factual and conceptual side. So if you are preparing for UGC NET you have good chances of clearing this exam. CIP Ranchi asks questions on the pattern of UGC NET Paper 2 Pattern (Remember the old pattern with paper 2&3)

A detailed review of the question paper

Cognitive Sciences: CIP mostly asks questions about learning theories and their use in therapy. Questions have been asked about perception and memory. In Biopsychology, they ask questions about neurons, sleep and hormones.

Personality & Developmental: Questions have been asked about different theories of personality and different stages of developmental theories.

Social Psychology: Most questions have been asked about social cognition, compliance, attitudes, aggression. Questions are mostly conceptual.

Clinical Psychology & Abnormal Psychology: Questions from this part have been asked from different therapies and their details. Some factual questions have been asked about therapies and their developers. Questions in abnormal psychology are mostly asked about DSM (History and developmental) and personality and sexual disorders & schizophrenia. They mostly ask for differential diagnosis of different disorders. But as mentioned in earlier posts MPhil Clinical Psychology is not about DSM and disorders but more than that; however, you should know every disorder and the symptoms.

Research & Statistics: A fair amount of questions have been asked from this portion and questions are mostly asked about different experimental designs and sampling methods, validity and reliability types. From stats, questions have been asked about central tendency, parametric and nonparametric tests and NPC.

The interview

The Interview is conducted by a panel of CIP experts. They mostly ask questions in statistics and research methodology, masters dissertation, Psychometric tools, Learning theories. Questions are being asked from every domain of psychology.
